Select Similar

I'm using Civil 3d, and when I right-click on an object, there's an option to "Select Similar". Does anyone know the definition of "Similar" in this context. At first, I thought it was like fiter, but I noticed that not all properties were matched when using select similar. Does anyone know exactly what is selected when using the "Select Similar" tool.

For example, if you pick a contour label, rt-click and 'Select similar', all contour labels will be selected. Try it with other types of entities to find out.

The filtering is done in the way that it selects entities that are the same nature and also same layer. If you select a pipe network it'll choose only the ones that are in the same network if you put the entities on the same layer, if you put all of your pipe networks on layer 0, it'll pick all the pipes whatever which network it is in.
