Copying items within CAD 2008

Hi, I have had alook though the forum and cannot seem to locate a similar problem so im hoping someone can.
I work with autocad 2008 and most recently when selecting and object to copy and copying to another drawing the computer is slowing down and taking up to 15 minutes to paste into the new drawing.
It seems to be same problem with just single polylines or even bug OS grids.
This is something that has only starting happening recently to both CAD pc's in the office, a reinstall fixed it for a day but then back to the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, or any solution would be very helpfull.

thankyou for your quick reply.
I dont hae any similar problems with other programs, i will try the solution advised and see if it makes a difference.


Im afraid it hasnt really made a difference still taking along time to copy.
Any other suggestions.

Is it happening in just one dwg that your copying from (same object)
or does it do it in all drawings?

it does it in all drawings, its really slowing down drawing production time.
