Now that I have upgraded to Autocad2002 I was wondering if I can get rid of the autocad today dialog box that comes up when Acad loads?
Thanks in advance!

Tools -> Options

Under the tab system:

Startup:
- Show TODAY startup dialog
- Show traditional startup dialog
- Do not show a startup dialog

Yes, isn't that TODAY thing really anoying? Is there anyone out there who actually uses this - the first thing I always do on a new installation is set the traditional start dialogue instead of TODAY!

That and turn off the Active Assistance - Yuck!

If the file I am going to use is number one in the recetly used list I click it, but otherwise I just browse in a normal way to open a file...

The dotsoft website has a cool free lisp that lists the last twenty files alphabetically.

I`ve changed my setting (Cad 2002) to `do not show a startup dialog` ... great when i open cad now, straight to business :D
but what happen if i want to create a new drawing starting from scratch (`new`) ... now i`ve got to enter the name of my file into the bottom toolbar, and automatically it creates the new template.

My question is, do you know which default setting Cad is using when creating this page? and can we change them? Because with the dialog box you had the choice between `metric` & `english` ... now i`m unsure of the measure used ...

Thanks

The best way to manage templates when you start AutoCAD is to specify the required template from the program shortcut. The beauty of this is that you can have any number of shortcuts that each point at a different template.

To do this, you must first save a template (.dwt) file after having set up all your settings. Then, add the "/t" command line switch to the shortcut target. The syntax is important here. Your target should look something like this:

"C:\Program Files\AutoCAD\acad.exe" /t "c:\program files\AutoCAD\My Templates\metric.dwt"

Be sure to include all the quotes and spaces as shown above.

When you are done, the Shortcut tab should look something like this:

Have a go and let us know how you get on.

We have found it to be a really usefull tool, mostly because of this article! :D

i had to go back quite a ways to find this old post, but it sort of relates to a question i have. i am one of those who actually does use 'today' or at least i used to when i used acad2002. i'm now using acad2006 and would i be correct to assume that this feature is gone now? if it isn't, i can't find where to turn it on. i actually used it quite often, though probably not for what it was intended for. it was a handy way to look back and see what particular files i was workin in on certain days. if i needed to know what day i worked on a certain job for somebody, i could just scan through that, look for the file name and when holding the cursor over the file name, it'd list the day and time i was last in that file. so if anybody could offer any advice as to if this exists in 2006 or not, i'd appreciate it.

thanks!
