Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a good tutorial that shows the basics, and the details required to animate an assy.

I have a crankshaft, CON rod, and piston that are constrained correctly in the model view, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to animate them.

I can get to the point where I select the components, and select the crank centerline then the rotation angle, but when I hit the play button the timeline slider moves, but nothing happens.

The only thing I can think of is this.....

When I first open the file, and hit animate components it pops up and says "animations are not active in the model." or something like that. When I right click on the browser and hit activate under model space, it acts like it does something, but nothing happens.

If you have any insight please let me know.

Thanks guys......Mike

Did you select the component then 'drag' it along an axis to Explode it ?

Put an angle constraint between a plane going down the axis of the crankshaft and some other convenient plane. Right mouse button on the angle constraint and select Drive Constraint to make sure the assembly works as expected (increase the angle rotation to at least 360°).
Assuming everything worked as expected - now go to Inventor Studio and select Animate constraint and find the angle constraint (I always rename it Drive This.
If you can't figure it out zip and attach your files here.

Also, search Google on Bill Bogan Inventor Studio Tutorials.

HUH? I have no idea what your refering to.

A bit of a problem on the Zipping of files..........

I can only get it down to 266 KB before I remove things that NEED to be there for the ASSY to work.

any Ideas?

I think Mr. T got confused thinking you were in an ipn.

Open each of the part files and drag the red End of Part marker to the top of the browser - then save and zip.

All I need is the crank, connecting rod and piston.

You are REALLY gonna have to be patient with me, I'm supposed to be learning this at a school, but seem to be teaching myself.

What do you mean by part marker?

"End Of Part" marker.
It is a red "X" inside a circle at the bottom of the model tree.

Think I got it.

See what you think, I'm really trying to learn this program, but the frustration sometimes does'nt seem worth it.

Thanks guys!

You zipped only the assembly file. An iam file only contains links to the parts. You must also attach the ipt files.
