I am trying to build a frame in inventor and want some advice on how to do it, can I assembly it with welds or is it better to do it with joints. Any advice would be appreciated

The best advice i can give you is to make a skeleton sketch as a part.
Then open a assembly and place that part (name it skeleton sketch so you know what it is).
Then on the assembly panel click the down arrow and select frame generator.
6180
Then select insert frame member.
6181
Then select the lines on your sketch, and select your frame type good luck.

I have inventor 10 and I can't find a frame generator function. This is what I am trying to build http://www.green-trust.org/junkyardprojects/FreeGoKart&ATVPlans/MountainKart.pdf
It looks easy enough for a start.

That shoud be an easy model using frame generator
OPC 12 has shown you how to find it!
Saying that, I cannot remember when frame generator was introduced?

Looking into it frame generator was launched with Inventor 11 so johnboy your out of luck with that one, but all is not lost, this model can still be done using 3d sketches and sweeping the profile.

I'll tell ya, I can't get my line on the 3d sketch to lie forward at 45 degree and 45 degree to the inside aswell, look at the drawing at the front of the the kart, the way it bends up and inwards

What you need to do is place the xyz coordinates in excel then bring that into inventor using import points, then you can sweep the tube.

Is there any tutorials that demonstrate this. I can't seem to find it in the help files. Can someone just show me with the precision input tool, this is driving me nuts, I don't want to sound stupid, but I can get the bend inwards but not outwards aswell as shown below.

Sign up to this and you can download loads of step files that will import into Inventor. Here are a few wheels I have found, import them and scale them to size.
