View Full Version : modify surface colors - CIVIL3D

I'm using Civil 3D to create a surface. Does anyone know how to manipulate the color contour image for specific colors? E.g., If I want all elevations between 32 and 34 to be blue, 34 and 36 to be yellow, etc..
I see where you can choose the overall color scheme, such as blues to greens, however that did not even work when I tried that. Ideally, I'd like to be able to manipulate each contour interval. Any thoughts?
Thanks

1. select the surface
2. right click on the surface
3. select "surface properties"
4. select "Analysis" tab, make sure you have change the "Analysis type" to Contours
5. specify new range if you want to add/limit spectrum and then click the blue arrow icon
6. "Range details" should be updated if you change the range
7. On "Range Details", double left click the parameter you want to change, (i.e. "minimum level", "maximum level", and color "scheme")
success

Hi rakachitra
I have tried doing what you said and can not get it to give the result I want. Maybe I am missing something ?
I am trying to get multi-colour contour lines not the shaded rainbow as this makes it hard to see other features.
Is this possible ? In flat areas contours go up and down hence using colours for drainage design.

You may be able to do it via user contours. I think these are in the analysis section too, but I don't remember. Not at work so can't check right now. Will look into it in the morning.

You must have had a different option selected under the Analysis tab because when it is done as rakachitra stated it works. The contours change color based on your ranges. Maybe you had the slopes selected under analysis type? This would add shading to the slopes and make the plan a little hard to see in some cases.

I have tried and tried and no success there must just 1 button or something I am not changing. I have noticed despite clicking Apply it keeps un toggling contours back to elevation. I have tried all the different default styles.
Could you please post some screen grabs of you settings.
It is frustrating me that it will not work. just a Ps running 2008.

1. Are you clicking the little blue arrow to run your analysis? See attached. You must click this blue arrow and then Apply > OK for it to work.
2. Are the layers for your contours ON in both the surface style and in your layer manager? Be sure the layers are on in the surface style > Display tab and in the layer manager (main drawing layer settings).

Found the answer finally thanks for the help another engineer here found it, as I suggested change 1 box some where.
For others you need to go to "toolspace" "settings" and click on you Contour style eg 1m contours right button "Edit" and change colour ranges to be "True" you then get colour.
