When downloading windows/doors from 3d warehouse, where do I save the file? I sent to Plug Ins and could not find in drop downs. Any suggestions? Trying to slog through this with book and no instructor. Please, also, see thread on scaling a download.

Which book are you referring to? Where are you downloading the blocks from?
Could you provide a link to the information above?

I'm using Sketchup for Dummies by Aidan Chopra. The book is fine but, he is just a little light when it comes to this single area of the procedure of downloading components from 3D Warehouse.

I happened to just see your post on Sketchup components a few minutes ago and, interesting in my reading so far, Chopra does not mention that website for windows, doors, etc. I will probably still have the same question of, where to save the download for future access.
I will try it when I get off.
Thanks CK,
Tim

CK,
Thank you for the reply. A further question, I was in the SU program files yesterday and saw there is a Components sub file. I went to 3D warehouse and downloaded a window to that file, just to see what would happen, and found I could then access the new component in the components dialog box. I will try your desktop method today. I'm still a little confused by component / group, etc. What's the difference between saving to the desktop or the componens file?
Slowly getting the picture.
Thanks,
Tim

Nothing other than convenience I believe.
I find it's easier to select a file in a folder on the desktop, rather than surf through all the file folders on your hard drive.
A component can be anything from a window, door, etc. A group is a bunch of components put together.

CK (and others who may misinterpreted),
I would like to clarify, what may have sounded like a criticism of the Chopra book I'm using.
So far, I'm very happy with this book and he does something I think is far more valuable than any questions my early reading may have inspired. He explains with simple, clear examples and descriptions, foregoing the "techy" language, and supplements the text with useful well organized video tutorials at his website aidanchopra.com.
In a day and age when complicated and obscure equal important this book is refreshing and valuable. I'm assuming, given the title, he will not cover the more advanced skills but, I was looking for a start, only, when I purchased, and expected to proceed with that foundation on my own and purchase more expensive books if I saw the need.
Just want to be fair.
