I am a design engineer for carolina knife and we use autocad to draw all of our knife blades. we have some thousands of drawings all on one server that i use to save all of my drawings to as the company has done for years prior to me getting here. from like 97 to 2002 ish one guy worked here who had set up a template for our drawings and saved it as a block into a file then pulled it into his drawings upon completing the drawing. seems like a good idea to me so i continued to do it but i created my own as a lot of things needed updated.
a few days ago my boss came to me asking me to update the template again. i complied and made the necessary changes, which were ONLY changing the layer of some of the text in my template. Which was seperate, with it's on file name and file extension, from the other guy ( guy 1) 's template that had been saved as a block and then inserted on hundreds of drawings.
i made these changed to my template then left for the day, took the next day off to go mtn biking, and came back today to find that some how something has screwed up every drawing guy1 ever did with his block template insertion.
So i don't see how my changing the layer or some text that was saved in my file not connected to his at all would change anything, i'm hoping to figure it out but at the bare minimum i'd like to clear my name.
symptoms: EVERY drawing he used the block on now has the drawing the original size, larger, and the template small... so half of the drawing is sticking out of the template all together. also i get some funky error i've never seen before from autocad the command line while opening the files will say, "opening a release 14 format file".
Diagnosis: i looked up the file extension for the template block that he has inserted into the drawings and i've found it's no longer there. at all, not even a backup of it on our server(says the IT guy ). I'm thinking that since the source file is gone maybe that is what's causing this? not sure if it would effect it at all though to be completely honest.
Does anyone know why it is doing this. otherwise my boss is going to continue to be really unhappy and me too as i am going to have to go threw and re-do all of like 500 drawings do to some weird error. If anyone has any thoughts or idea's on how to fix the problem they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
