Hi Guys,

I am building a new workstation for Autocad, mainly used for 3D in 2009. My question is, who has experience in using a RAID based operating system? Any problems? Or any suggestions?

The system I am building is as follows:
Main Board: Tyan S5397WARG2NRF
CPU: 2xIntel Xeon x5472 at 3.0
RAM: 32GB of PC2-6400-800MHZ FB-DIMM
HARD DRIVES: 5 x 146GB 15000RPM SAS
GRAPHIC CARD: ATI FireGL V8650 2GB
POWER SUPPLY: 1250 WATT COOLMASTER
CASE:COOLMASTER COSMOS 1000

My thoughts are that I should use a RAID 1E with the 5 Hard Drives or should I operate some other combination?

Would welcome any input.

Yes, there are a few bugs and a can of insectiside or a bug bomb might do the trick, but, I was looking at a SAS based RAID system for my new setup.

if you have 3 or more drive that are odd numbers I would use a Raid 5 Configuration setup. and what os are you thinking of using that will also help to determined weather or not you are aloud to do it. only a few os support raid setups.

thanks for reply shadow3865, Vista ultimate, and autocad 2009, Integrated sas LSI 1068E SAS controller, only RAID 0 , 1, and 1E is available, I think maybe a combo of RAID 0 op/system,and 2009 autocad ,dwf files on 1E and general animated files on a cheaper sata raid 10 which is also on board. all feel free to comment

Nice setup. I'd like to have your budget.
