I am a bit mistified I start with a Dwt that is 33kb add 1 line, save and then its 339kb. It has 2 layers 0 and line.

How do I really get a blank autocad dwg, it seems that its adding all sorts of AEC objects when I save.

Please note the drawing is purged, no un-neccessary objects any where. It does not seem to matter wether I save it as 2008-r12 same problem.

Reading in a dxf written in house for export from our GIS ie no proxy objects or high end entities simple lines and text etc is never smaller than 300kb even if erase to almost nothing.

Its frustrating I wanted to add a DWG to a posting hereand can not do.

does the size decrease if you WBLOCK the visible items to a new file?

You could zip the file, or even just post a screen print if it's just a visual requirement... Just a workaround for the time being...

Do you have a variety of different templates you can try?

I tried the wblock and that gave me the answer I needed

I wblocked a single line and ended up with a dwg of 66kb very small which is what I was after. Did the same with a larger job and it was ok at 136Kb and has 1000+ objects.

Interesting though opened the wblock erased the line and resaved size now 241 Kb but has nothing in it!

During the wblock though it did give me an option to get rid of the MAP proxy information this seems to be the problem that as we use Civil 3D it always adds proxy objects wether you are using them or not. There may be a way of turning these off during a save. I will look further.

We do use various Dwt's depending on what we are doing so the wblock option may help to create what we call a blank dwt.

I'll just move your thread to the appropriate forum for Civil 3D where you may get an answer a bit quicker
