View Full Version : What version of ACIS (.sat) will Autocad 2008 read?

Autocad 2008 exports solids in .sat file format, and Solidworks 2006 reads them in just fine (albeit, with gaps and face errors). However, when exporting back to Autocad 2008 (via the .sat format) I get a "cannot read file" in Autocad. Solidworks has a nice method of changing the version of the ACIS format to almost any version. Before I run through all 14 versions, has anyone be able to successfully import a .sat file back into Autocad 2008 from Solidworks? If so what version did you use? In general I want to get a solid from Solidworks over to Autocad 2008 (the reasons are many).
Thank you.

Autodesk products will read up to ACIS v7.
Set your Options to version 7 when saving in SWX.

ACIS Version 7 worked perfectly. I've been able to exchange solid data to/from Autocad 2008 to Solidworks 2006. Autocad still dissappoints me when it comes to gaps in faces, and general solids problems but Solidworks readily fixes them. Thanks!

Follow-up... When the ACIS version 7 .sat file is imported into Autocad 2008 from SWX, it looks and responds to the List command as a perfectly acceptable solid. However, when a Check command is run on it, is comes across as an "This object is not a valid ShapeManager solid". I noticed some strange behavior of the solid when I worked with it, so I'm not quite sure where to head from here. I may try other ACIS versions and re-post if the problem is fixed.

Roll up the feature tree for the original SWX file, zip and attach here.
