I'm trying to get a grip on Tool Palettes (which I've nevre really used before...) within ACAD Architecture (yes yes I'll change my Profile in a sec) 2009 and I came across Layer Keys which looks like something real nifty!

But when I try to create my own Layer Keys the program won't let me! The weird thing is that I succeded once - but now nothing happens. I've cretad a new Layer Key Style (which btw comes loaded with defaults which are very annoying!) but I can't either change the defaults to point to the layers I want them to or add my own Keys! When I try it's all fine and dandy until I hit Apply and OK to exit out of the dialogue - when I go back in, all the changes are gone!

Anyone working with Layer Keys? What do you think about it? And anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Quick answer, I am working with Layer Keys, and I think it is a great feature of ACA.
I admit, it may take a bit of getting used to, but keep at it and you will soon see the benefits.

I thought it was for the esoteric heights of 3d word in Architecture but seeing these posts has made me have a look for bog standard drafting...

i see how it works , now to see if i need to change my own CiSfB system :?:?

:? I read every word of that, and I understand every word... but not together.... :? .. I'll put it down to something British shall I?

LCE - thanks, it means I'm heading in the right direction by learning this stuff..but I still would like to figure out why I can't add a new Layer Key.

Tiger, apologies:oops:
I started to rewrite my message but it was the same:unsure:

Shall I write it in Swedish? :)Perhaps not.

I think the 'SfB' letters of the British layering system are Swedish; without looking it up - 'SammarbetscomittenforBynadsfragor' :geek:- correct my spelling please!:)

OK. Real 'shot-in-the-dark' here. Take a look at this link. I didn't read it all the way through but it might hold some useful information.

that would probably be 'Samarbetskommiten för Byggnadsfrågor' - a standardization commiteé I presume?

You post makes more sense now btw :)

Hey, Tiger...you check out that link yet or what? Still lounging around in your jammies, eating bon-bons, & listening to the ipod?

Being serious on the topic for a moment-:geek:

(how) can the preferred layer standard (I'm would use BS 1192) be used / imported 'en bloc' or selectively?

I have just made a new layer based on the standard using the 'wizard' (- its not called that but prompts for values) but this doesn't seem sensible when its been done already.

Although I have over time absorbed the construction element digits, :geek: the downside seems to be the cryptic layer name generated - although there is a 'description' to the far right of the layer properties window...

I know I created our layer keys in the office sometime last year, but for the life of me I cant remember how lol.

It does have something to do with the AECSTD.dwg or some file close to that, click on your drawings setup thingy, its a little circle above your command bar at the lower right, go into drawing setup. click on the layering tab, and the file listed under layer standards/key file to auto-import lists the file AECLayerStd.dwg, backup this file. The information you need to change is in here. Now how to actually look up the lists of what goes where, I cant remember.

trying to, but it's so hard! :(

ReMark and Noahma - back at the office now (monday after all...) and just about to start fiddling with the Keys again. I read the linky ReMark, and it looks good, it looks like it's for 2006 though so it's a bit of translation needed. Noahma - Thanks! I think I just got a breakthrough :D
