Hi and thanks for the help

I imported a DWG file to max and i try to rearrange the blueprints in the 3D space.
The problem is that when i pick the wall from the top view for example i pick other walls from other views as well. So i cant rotate and tranform it separetly. Or if i pick a window i actually pick all the windows in the file and not the single window i ment to mark.

How can i break it apart? How can i "pick" only the objects that were in the selection box?

Thanks

How did you Import the file? Did you bring it in as a an "Autocad Drawing dwg" or a "Legacy Autocad dwg" or did you use the "File Link Manager"?

Also, what version of Max are you using?

Thanks for the help.
I tried both with file -> import and with file manager.
When i import as "entity" i recive the the objects "too small" every line is separeted...
When i use the other options its all "too big" objects that I should rotate in a certain view are picked as a group with other objects from other views.
Any ideas?

I would suggest Importing the Cad file as an "Autocad Drawing dwg". I generally don't use the "Legacy Autocad dwg", although it sometimes works when the other option doesn't.

When the Import dialog opens, make sure that the "Derive Autocad Primitives by" option is set to Entity. This should break up the model into individual pieces. You can also choose to Derive Primitives by Color or Layer, depending on how your Cad file is set up or how you want the model to be broken up in Max. But it really all depends on how you built the model in Autocad. You want to make sure you have clean geometry to import, otherwise you will have problems.

I don't need the entire drawing. Can you just strip it down to only the relevant parts? I just need to see what kind of objects you're working with and run some tests. I've already run several tests of my own and have no problems, so the only way I can help you, is to see what you're working with.

OK.
I think its uploaded.
What you will see is an example for a wall which can be only selected in the whole four views together (views of the blueprint ofc).
And again. no matter how many times i say its not enough.
THANK YOU.

Nice Portfolio Rod.
The CADBOT is exellent. I really like the concept and the artwork, specialy the reflections on his head.
Sundial as well. Very good job.

Sorry, but I'm still not having any problems Importing your file. I can easily move any piece I select independant of the rest. Look at the Images below, and make sure you're using the same Import options and settings.

I should also mention that the image below shows what I see when I open your file. Is that what you meant to send? For some reason, I thought you were working with 3D solids in Autocad. But regardless, when I Import the file to Max, I can move any line I select, independant of the rest.

Hi Conovo,

I've had a look at your test file too. Please note that as Cad64's screenshot shows, you must, under the "derive AutoCAD Primitives by" drop down, opt for "Entity" rather than by "layer".

Hope this helps.

Regarding the post.
Yes, I mentioned that when I pick an entity the selection is "too small". Those small lines are a "group" which is a part of a certain wall (red wall for example).
If you wont import as entity you will be able to see the full wall. the problem is that the "red" layer is conected to all the red objects in left\right\back. I cant isolate or "half break apart" the red layer and use it only for Front view...

I really hope that you understand what im trying to say...

And really, I was following the thread and expecting a email notice that you replied. Obviously I missed it. Never ment to ask for help and ignore once i got it.

Noam

I'm sorry, I would like to help you with this, but I am unable to duplicate the problem on my machine. When I open your Autocad file, all I see is a flat 2D drawing, as I posted previously. And when I Import the Cad file into Max, by Entity, I have no problem moving individual objects around in the scene.

Can you post your Max file? You will have to Zip it in order to post it.

And, if you want email notifications, you will need to set that option in your User CP "Edit Options" section. Although, since you only have 9 posts, you may not be able to set that option yet. Once you reach 10 posts you will have full member priveleges.
