Have just run 3DCONFIG in AutCAD 2008 and came up with this info:

Machine Configuration
---------------------
Processor Speed : 2.2 GHz
RAM : 895 MB

3D Device
---------
Name : NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Manufacturer : NVIDIA
Chip set : GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Memory : 512.0 MB
Driver : 6.14.0011.6375

Your machine contains a 3D Device that is not certified.

I am having a new graphics card put in this afternoon, not sure what my tech is putting in, he said he would find out what would be suitable for the program.

Are there any other suggestions as to what I need to have changed when I take my computer in.

Thanks, had already seen that, but was wanting to know if there was anything I need to get done here:

Processor Speed : 2.2 GHz
RAM : 895 MB

It never hurts to have more ram. The good news is that it seemed above that you were using an on-board video card, unless I am mistaken the Geforce 6150 was an on-board card with shared memory. Using a true card will free up this shared memory for system use. I have my doubts that your IT guy will get a true AutoCAD ready card. Most get it wrong.

Have just received my computer back and ran 3dconfig again, and this is what it has turned up:

Machine Configuration
---------------------
Processor Speed : 2.2 GHz
RAM : 1023 MB

3D Device
---------
Name : Radeon X1600/X1650 Series
Manufacturer : Radeon
Chip set : X1600/X1650 Series
Memory : 256.0 MB
Driver : 6.14.0010.6783

Your machine contains a 3D Device that is not certified.

Is this an improvement?

Wow, he put in a $50-$75 card. What an idiot!
Did he look to see what was required?
Does it act any better?

It has made an improvement, but not knowing AutoCAD all that well, I don't know if it is up to scratch. I am going to try see a friend this weekend or on Monday to see if he can show me his program so that I can get a better idea on what 3D should look like. I believe his system is one of the top of the range.

I gather by your response that he could have done much better.
