Hi Folks,

First post...So here goes. We are starting to set up ACAD2009 and I have a few questions regarding blocks & libraries.

What is the preferred & easiest way to manage block libraries? 1) to have a separate drawing for each block or 2) to have 1 drawing containing several blocks.

Also, being a canadian firm, we work in Metric & imperial units depending on the project. Are we forced to maintain both a metric & imperial set of blocks/libraries or can we use the same blocks for both systems.

Using ACAD 2007 we were able to use the same set of blocks but in 2009 we want to use the Annotative functionality of the software. And I'm not sure how the block behavior will change.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks
Eddy

One drawing with all blocks seems more efficient.

We have a different library for each client, and just switch profiles depending on what project I'm working on. I find each block in a separate drawing works best for me. I'll put a complete block toolbar with flyouts, along with a couple tool pallets with the most commonly used blocks. Personaly, I find it much faster.

I have used multiple in one, but in the long run if your shooting for production, it will slow you down.

One drawing with all blocks seems more efficient.

We have one drawing for each field (Electrical, Fire Alarm, Etc.) and in each drawing file there is anywhere from 15 to 60 blocks. Try to make it as simple as possible.

The one drawing/mulitple blocks approach can best be utilized via the Design Center. Using it to locate the drawing, you can find all the blocks listed in the master drawing then drag and drop them into your new drawing. You can even go as far as creating a new Tool Palette with the blocks on it too.
