Not sure if this is allowed here. Some boards don't like having websites listed but I found a cool site where you can download drawings with dimensions in 2d and 3d. The drawings are free to download.

Where are the drawing files?

From the front page you need to select what part you are looking for. For example under: Fastening and Sealing select Machine Screws then start selecting what kind of Machine Screw you are looking for. This will narrow the search. Once the selection is narrowed down a drawing will appear on screen. After you see this look in the upper left hand corner of the screen and you will see a button that says "Download" this will bring up a selection of what format you are looking for. There are lots of online parts with dimensions that can be downloaded but not every part has a drawing. We use McMaster-Carr for most of our mechanical parts like nuts, bolts and washers. Hope this helps. Let me know if need further help with this.

Thanks Mark,

What a site.

Now I need to learn how to use it. I am using AutoCAD 05 and have downloaded a 3-D nut, I think. It is a 81 KB Standard ACIS text file with no extension in the filename. Is this a 3-D object and if so how do I get it into a dwg?

Thanks again,

Bill
