Hi,
Would someone be so kind as to help this rookie  figure out
how to tranlate a Microstation .DGN file into an AutoCAD .DWG
file? It seems that the "Insert" pull-down menu doesn't provide
for this.
Thanks a bunch! :)

In these days of software compatibility, it shouldn't be difficult to make this conversion. The truth is that it IS difficult. A quick trawl of Google brought up these links:

Let us know how you get on. Good luck!

Plain-Jane vanilla AutoCAD cannot open/insert a .dgn file. Your choices are...
1. Have the person making the ,dgn file to save as a .dwg file (most current versions of microstation can do this).
2. Have a 3rd party translator.
3. AutoCAD Map can open .dgn files

3rd party products...

http://www.intergraph.com/smartsketch/

I have used them both and I liked the Smartsketch best. I could see the file and then adjust it as needed but the DGNLink could transfer level to layers better. No easy answer... :(

Good luck.
