Hi there,

I recently read that the best setting for the virtual memory, is 4x times the size op the pfysical memory of the PC. The article I read it in is 2 years old.

What kind of settings do you guys advise? I have 512 mb of RAM, recently formatted a partition of 4,8 gb, do you think it would be better to set that partition as the swapfile location (as there will be no other activity on that partition)? And what start and maximum size would you suggest?

THNX in advance!

PS. I forgot to mention I'm using Windows XP...

I think that if you monitor the size of the swapfile you will find it is rarely above 50mb.

Don't worry about swapfiles.

When I do not change anything, (windows takes care of the filesize), the file is already 700+ mb...

 Well there must be something wierd going on then. Right now I have 256ram on win95, windows managing swapfile, Acad open, explorer, coreldraw and express. Using SYSMON I have 1.8mb of swap file.

When I re-installed win95  in sept I partitioned my wee 6.4gb drive into smaller sizes. My swap drive is 500mb, that is the partition for the swap file. Some mags say you should have the swap file on the same partition that the win directory is on.

Good luck

OK, THNX, I read that W95, W98 and ME handle the swapfile different from the NT'S (also 2000 and XP)...
