Hi Dear Friends,

I am new learner of AUTOCAD 2008, I am structure Engineer. I want to know is there any book or references to become more and quick familiar with drawing structure objects such as beams, columns an connections. I want to draw just these elements and it is important to know how?

What country do you work in?

If you were in the U.S. I'd recommend, as a good reference, the Manual of Steel Construction, along it is not really geared towards drawing so much as it is towards things like dimensions, properties, design, connections and codes.

As a new-to-AutoCAD user I would recommend a good after-market AutoCAD book such as George Omura's "Mastering AutoCAD" series or one by Ellen Finkelstein.

Another good steel reference book is "Steel Structures: Behavior and LRFD" by Sriramulu Vinnakota.

Where (company name) are you presently working? On what types of projects?

Hi,

I am working in UAE, In steel and concrete buildings design. I am supposed to become familiar with drawing documents with AUTOCAD and looking for references for drawing steel and concrete structure detailing buildings. I find some books to learn AUTOCAD, but my problem is all of them are GENERAL, you may need some instruction and also some instructions are useless for you. I want learn AUTOCAD just for steel and concrete structure design.

One thing I'd recommend is buying some off-the-shelf software that has the common shapes (beams, channels, tube, etc.) already drawn and ready for insertion into a drawing. It will save you tons of time.

And, if you already haven't noticed in your other posts by the same name, please do not post the same question in multiple areas. It just makes life easier for everyone. Thanks.

I've never come across a book with that combination of topics. Usually you'd go out and buy a book about steel detailing first. Then it doesn't matter if you are an old fashioned board drafter (ink on mylar) or a newbie CAD tech. It still has to be drawn the same way (lines and circles). CAD justs saves time on repetitive features, is easier to keep lines straight (with ortho), is more precise and erasing, moving, stretching, copying, etc. (all those editing commands) are so much easier too. Maybe you need to look at something other than AutoCAD 2008. Try researching steel detailing software. Mind you, some of that can get to be awfully expensive.
