AutoCAD 2006 just arrived this morning at work and great timing too. Not a lot going on this morning and I can spend time installing. Wish me luck!

Good..maybe you can tell us what's new with AutoCAD 2006....does it still have the command line? because, I have grown accustomed to using the command line as opposed to using toolbars..

The command line is still at the bottom but it is also at the curser. Here is one really neat feature. When you select Line from the Draw toolbar and you select one point as you move the curser around you will see the lenght and the angle of the line. Then as you select the second point you move the curser around and it will snap perpendicular. Don't remember 2005 doing this.

The trouble I've had so far has been converting my current menus and custom menus into what the new format for menus are. It is suppose to be easy but I have run into a slight snag. In previous releases of AutoCAD menus were given .mnu and .mns extensions and I could edit them using my word processor but the new system is .CUI which I know nothing about. When I edit the .cui menu with my word processer I get a bunch of junk that I can't read. I may have to use Microsoft Wordpad or Notepad. Other than this I haven't really played around with it yet.

The new .CUI menu files are written in XML. This is a basic text file but may not display correctly in a word processor.

I recommend using something like TextPad (http://www.textpad.com) to edit the .CUI file directly although you will need to get to grips with XML to do so. It's just a markup language and isn't difficult to read but you will have to get the syntax right.

From 2002 on, you can turn on "Polar" from the bottom button bar, and its the same thing. Right click on that button, select settings, there you can set the 'increment' in angular degrees it will snap to.:)
