Is there any suggested practice on setting up limits in a template file?
Most of our drawings are based on entire floors of buildings or large rooms. I wanted to create a template file that was setup with our standard layers and wondered if I should set the limits also. When I create a new drawing from my template the default limits are <17.0000,11.0000>:. When I insert my blocks they are large until I chage the limits of the drawing.
Any suggestions or tips?

LIMITS is an older mode that doesn't have the same significance in plotting as it once had. When there was only model space, you could scale up your border and set the limits so that you wouldn't draw outside the border. Paperspace kind of made that out dated. Also, people using different size borders regularly had some issues.
That said, LIMITS still regulates the size of the visible grid. So if you use grid ( F7 ) you may want to set the limits value.
I personelly don't use limits anymore. -David

Yep, I agree. I don't use Limits unless I need to control the visible grid but I don't use that much either.
The drawing limits should not affect your block insertions and it has no affect on scale so I guess your block problem must be comming from somewhere else.

OK. your prolly right. My blobk problem is coming from somewhere else..:)
If I set me limits on my .dwt file to 17,11 and insert my block it takes up the entire screen. I then have to zoom out a little so I can insert another block etc. If I set my limits to 8500,5500 then I have a ton of room to run around and play. My thinking is make the limits 8500, 5500 in the template. Is this the wrong way to tackle this? You guys say you dont use limits...do you just zome out as you draw/add things?

Yes, that's right. Certainly, you can set your limits to something other than the default in your DWT file if it's more convenient but it makes little difference to the drawing. Zoom out as required.

Who you calling a "grid" ;) :D
Yeah "limits" are a thing from the past that can be ignored, completely.
Well, I have ignored them. I think the last time I used them was on r10.
