WozzaCad Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Hello all I really hope you can help, my problem is as follows There is a small team of us and we all want to have a central area where we can store our created blocks so our drawings have a standard. I have created a folder on our server, which inside has sub folders for each style of block e.g. Shop Front, Back Of House Etc. Our blocks are now saved in their relevant folder but we have the following issues, 1) Sometimes when bringing a block in it comes in as a totally different block even though they have completely different name & are saved in different folders. 2)Every morning when we load up our Pc's we all have a different problem, on one we get double pallets so 2 X Shop Front etc and the other all the pallets have disappeared meaning us having to reload the pallets on that pc. Now we know this isn’t a problem of us shutting down the pc as we have tried that and once rebooted the blocks are still fine to use it seems to be something over night. (Server related?) Just for reference I have gone to tools options Support File Search Path and linked it to the block folder and moved that link to the top of the list Also Tool Palettes File Location Pointing to the same folder and moved to the top also. Any help to sort these little problems would be great P.S we are using AutoCAD 2007 LT Quote
NBC Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I have found it to be a good idea to make all folders where tool palettes are located to be set to be read only. this has minimised any issues such as this. please feel to try it and report back if it keeps occurring. Quote

You should have a separte folder for you can make the tool pallete's read only. Just remember even though the files are read only if eveyone is in it, and one moves as button and then exit it will save it. It will do that for everyone, so who ever is save to exit cad that night will have there defaults saved. I would suggest if there all only a few I would export it to a .xtp/.xtg file and import them on each computer and you won't have the problem. Just everything you update the tool palettes you will need to reimport the new palletes in. You should go to your first threat and hit edit, then go advance, so you can change the tilte of this thread to "Network Tool Palettes" it will make this useful in the future for others to search for it. NBC Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 No, I didn't export them to any kind of file. I just pointed to the folder that contained all the palettes information via toolpalettepath which was set up using a networked version of acad.lsp This way, when any user opens up ACAD all the tool palettes are locked and unchangeable. NBC Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I think they are .atc files which I created on the network, and then I shut CAD down so I could make the folders all read-only ut Then I added a line to the networked version of acaddoc.lsp to call in another lsp file which sets the path of the toolpalettes automatically on each machine. Upon trying this it appeared to work but we came in this morning and once again had simular problems. I had the palletts all doubled up and the other person had some of her block there and others had dissapered with just a white square where it used to be on the pallette Quote
NBC Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 It sounds like someone is messing around with them. I have things set up this way, and it works fine; never been a problem. Quote

I can asure you no one is messing around with them, could it possibley be down to any kind of over night windows updates etc either on our personal Pc or the server itself? Quote

It sounds like someone it updating it but the images are going to the support folder instead into the network folder. It might be easier just until you are done with the tool palette construction to make them .xtg for now. Quote
