I am trying to edit text, multiline, and when I select it the text editor window opens "empty". The text is not showing... :?:

Update.
The text I am trying to edit is a cusotm font I installed tonight.
It is an .shx file added to the AutoCAD 2004 Font folder.

I can edit it fine in single line text.

Do I need to add it somewhere else or do something else?

Thanks.

I tried reloading the program and it is still happening?
Anybody got any ideas? :?

I removed the text file from the font folder in AutoCAD and placed a new one in. Still the same problem.
I would really appreciate any help with this. 8)

I even tried changing the background color but that does not help either.

Have you tried turning off font smoothing under Windows display properties to see if that is causing the problem? At best, font smoothing causes SHX fonts to display very faintly in the edit text window.

Thanks for the reply...
Where would I find the font smoothing? I cannot seem to find what you are referring to.
I am running Windows XP if that helps.

More info on my problem if it helps...

I used the Express menu to change a single line text to multiline and got this error.

"This object contains one or more invalid MTEXT formatting commands. The invelid command(s) have been converted to inert text."

I clicked ok and got the same result, edig box open, no text showing. However, if I change the text style to Arial all the text shows up. But it is now all changed to Arial.

I can edit my text, click ok, then do a match properties from the "Problem Text" and everything is ok. I guess if I have to work on files from work, that is a workaround I can use, but man would that be so annoying to do.

I am so confused.

Right-click on your desktop and choose "Properties" then click the "Appearance" tab and then the "Effects..." button.

Deselect the tick against "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:"

Take a look at your SHX fonts in the MTEXT editor and see if it's any better.

Thanks for help and the suggestions, however that did not help.

I looked at the topic you posted and tried it all (except the 256 color). My options are 16 or 32 bit. I get the same effect on both settings.

Also, the example shown on that thread is not what I am experiencing. You will notice the first "shot" shows the text faint... mine is simply not there. I do not even get a "highlight" when I move the cursor over it to try to highlight the text.

I think the warning I got earlier...

"This object contains one or more invalid MTEXT formatting commands. The invelid command(s) have been converted to inert text."

...might have something to do with it.

It only happens with the fonts I got from work. My co-worker shares his drawings back and forth on his copy of 2004 at home so I don't know what the problem might be.
Maybe I placed them incorrectly or did not copy them properly???

Have you got the fonts added to your search path( you can specify your support paths in your options)

Pardon my ignorance hyposmurf... where would I check that? I cannot seem to locate where I would check that.

Type options at the command line.Up pops your options dialogue box.Go to Files-Support path search paths. From there add the directory of the custom fonts for this drawing. It could be that AutoCAD cant find the font reuired.

Thanks hyposmurf but still no go. I even added a custom font folder and added a new support path. Still the same result.

Tips:

Do a list command on the text. What does it show for text? Does that look like what it should be?

If you manually draw a box around it, do is show it's grip?

Wblock it and open that file and check out what happens there....

Thanks ervine... I did a list for one here at work and sent it home. I will compare the two tonight.

I do know that if I select the text, I get the grips and can manipulate the text in that manner.

WBLOCK. I know that is write block however I have not used that function before. I have used the block command to create blocks.
What kind of information would that afford me?

Thanks again to everyone for helping me.
