ReMark Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 When "messing" with CUI files keep a backup somewhere, anywhere, but keep one! Why do people think they can customize the CUI and not make one mistake? That's all it takes to screw things up. This is the second or third post of this nature within the last two days. Consider it a cheap form of insurance. It's not like your hard drive is only 2MB in size. Today's hard drives have plenty of room. Then there are flash drives and external hard drives, etc., etc., etc. Think back to the good old DOS days (if you're old enough to remember). The very first thing we were taught, before editing a file (remember autoexec.bat and config.sys?) was to make a backup copy and put it somewhere safe. Don't think about doing it...just DO it. Thank you. This has been a public service message from the People for Smarter CUI Editing Society. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program. Quote
ABuckingham Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 When "messing" with CUI files keep a backup somewhere, anywhere, but keep one! Due to the highly important nature of this problem, would you be able to supply a detailed set of instructions on how to backup your CUI for posterity? Quote
happyunited Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Due to the highly important nature of this problem, would you be able to supply a detailed set of instructions on how to backup your CUI for posterity? It will be here > C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2008\enu\Support and its called acad.cui Quote
ReMark Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 A little more investigation and all is revealed. I found .cui files (acad and custom) located in the above named location and in Program Files > AutoCAD 2009 > UserDataCache > Support. I vaguely recall now that someone said the .cui file mentioned in the previous post are those that are actually edited by most people while the files I came across in my search is AutoDesk's version of the "originals". A check of files sizes and dates, at least on my system, seem to bear this out. Quote
mndwgz Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Can you import your 2008 acad.cui to 2009? Quote
ReMark Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 A cui can be migrated from one release to another. Refer to AutoCAD Help and the topic "How to migrate custom settings from previous versions." Quote
