How do I delete invisible proxy graphics?

I have a .dwg file that is 1,800KB. I have purged and deleted everything. The only layers are 0 and Defpoints. I cannot delete Defpoints. I am using AutoCad 2002.

I get the Proxy Information dialog box upon opening the file. I have used Quick Select to find objects, and there aren't any.

At one time I inserted information from a civil engineer's drawing, and that's where the proxy objects come from. I am an Architecture person, and we don't use proxies. We regularly mutter about engineering drafters for weird drafting habits and giving us files that are thousands of KB instead of hundreds.

Any engineering drafters reading this, I don't mean you.

I know engineers think Architects are in AutoCAD kindergarten. Some of us are, so please help.

Thanks in advance,
Shep

Options - Open & save ObjectARX Applications - Proxy objects for custom objects - Do not show proxy graphics. Thats for 2000 vesrion 2002 should be similar,no more dialogue box for annoying proxy objects!

There may other explanations for the large drawing that don't purge. Are there a lot of named Layer Filters, unnamed groups, or extended entity data?

For your information to keep in mind when talking to me. I am a self-taught, "Pick-It-Up-On-The-Job" AutoCad bloke. I took one class on Personal Designer in 1988. I have taken no other AutoCad classes. So I may not understand the vocabulary that you take for granted.

hyposmurf,

I could not find how to do what you recommended. I typed in the "arx" command and got a few red herrings and raw prawns. AutoCad Help was no help. Please go through what you are talking about command by command. Remember, I'm in kindergarten.

Carl B,

In our office we have already defeated the dreaded layer filters. We have a command that deletes them all instantly!! Yay!!

"unnamed groups"? I typed in "-group, ?" and got "Defined groups: Selectable". I think they must cover that in Grade 2, or I was asleep during that lesson, because I don't know what the @#%!! they're talking about.

"extended entity data"? See above.

Bear with me, I'm teachable usually.

I figured out something myself. What a brilliant person! Thank you.

Actually, what a bloody drongo for not thinking of it earlier.

What you do is to pick all the visible objects in your drawing and Writeblock them to a new file. The proxy graphics don't go with it.

Then delete the old file.

Smaller file, the dialog box doesn't get in your face every time you open a drawing, and your IT Administrator doesn't come around so often telling you to get rid of junk because the file server storage is all filled up.
