There has been lots of discussion on the web about which apps will survive the merger. The one thing everyone seems to agree is that Freehand will not survive. The other casualty is likely to be GoLive, always second to Dreamweaver. The Fireworks debate is less clear-cut. My opinion is that it is sufficiently different from Photoshop and sufficiently better than ImageReady for web imaging to survive.

I agree, Freehand's days are numbered :( I have heard that it is way easier to get things out of Freehand and into Flash than say Illustrator to Flash.
Dreamweaver is way better than GoLive IMHO ;)

That will undoubtedly change.

I hope so, I did try it once but it was a complete nightmare! I had a cool idea but never got it off the ground :(
I was gonna build a application that showed a particular space with different layouts with different equipment in each one. All the user had to do was click a button to see the different layouts but alas I do not work for them anymore :(

I'm with some of the others who think Fireworks will basically be an imageready replacement, since it does beautifully for web graphics, substantially better than ImageReady. I would guess it would be ImageReady's replacement in upcoming releases of photoshop, being its new partner.
I'm definitely curious as to how it will turn out.

That would be sweet if you got Fireworks with PS instead of ImageReady ;)
