Read-only DWG files

When sending drawing electronicly is there a way to make it read-only so that it can not be modified?

Right click on the drawing name and select properties. At the bottom of the properties general tab, check read only at the bottom.

but anyone who knows what they are doing can do the reverse when they receive the file and it wont be read only.

send as dwf or pdf?

Maybe send it as a sheet set, that way the original drawing can't be modified. They can scribble changes without affecting anything. Just another option I suppose.

I have seen this question hundreds of times, and the only reliable solution that I have ever seen is to use the products at http://www.cadlock.com

Anything else you might try is only some level of a deterrent.

The bigger question is "why do want to protect the drawing?" If you are afraid that the recipient may copy (i.e.: steal) your work, then why send the drawing in the first place? Why do business with someone you don't trust? I'm not trying to question your work habits, but I would just like some real world answers to why people need to "lock down" drawings...
