cameroon95 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I'm encountering problems with backfacing in one of my max models, trying to create a torpedo. Iv attached material to this yet the main section is still darkened, any solutions on how to fix this? cheers Quote
Cad64 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 It looks like maybe your faces are flipped? Select all the black poly's and then click "Flip" from the "Modify - Edit Polygons" rollout. Quote
NuttZ Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 You can also try: In the modify pulldown...apply the Normal modifier. It will flip it as well. Then you can collapse all. Quote

Nutz-This worked a treat, thank you so much for your time The problem is guys, that it seems that it seems to draw backfaces quite a lot these days, could it be that iv flicked a setting somewhere meaning that the faces are flipped more often? Cad64 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 How did you create the model? What procedure did you use? For instance, if you create a circle, convert to editable poly and extrude in the positive direction everything is fine. But if you extrude in the negative direction, your faces will be flipped to the inside. Quote
hazardman Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 also, the direction of the spline dictates in what directions the surface normal will point after to extrude/loft/lathe it etc... for lathing, you should be drawing the spline in a counterclock-wise manner... Quote
