grain Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I cant get my head around what I'm supposed to know with regards to British Standards and CAD for electrical installations. Domestic and commercial. Does one have to pay £140 from the BS website. Is it BS8888?  Quote
A1DWG Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Hi Grain, I might be able to get hold of the BS. Let me know if it is the one you want, and as a Newbie, how do I get the file to you... Quote

ReMark Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 You don't know a single person working in the electrical field that you could ask for a copy of the standard? Remember, they had to pay for it initially and you want it for free. Do you see anything amiss with that attitude? Quote

Remember, they had to pay for it initially and you want it for free. Do you see anything amiss with that attitude? Hi Remark, Was anybody asking for something for nothing? I made a mistake with the heading 'Standards Please' I was just trying catch peoples attention by being ambigious. Your post has made me realise it is a request for a copy of standards where as I was using it to mean: Can we have some standards. (Which is what you are asking for) Incidentally is it more acceptable in your eyes to share the documents from a non cyber space colleague. This forum is an arena for the free flow of knowledge and information and hopefully in the future as my knowledge base in the subject increases I will be able to give as well as take. If there are issues regarding copyright then we are compelled to adhere to them. Maybe I should say: Does anyone have a used copy of the BS Standards that I can purchase as I dont have a surplus £140. Thanks ReMark for making me consider things with more care. Quote
ReMark Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 grain: No offense meant...nor taken. You've made a couple of valid points. I am just amazed that "standards" are not readily available as a matter of course whether it is in the U.S., England, or elsewhere. Standards should be made available for viewing over the Internet to encourage their use and dissemination. Why must we have to pay for standards? That seems counterproductive to me. Would the local public library or a university library have a copy of the standards? What about a local building department? Quote
grain Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 THe British Standards office have told me they use the sale price of their documents as a means of recouping their expences. From what I know so far there is quite a lot of variation in drawings offices CAD Standards and I'm observing that companies must fix their own set of design guidlines based on good ergonomics and aesthetics in order to establish consistent and effective drawings. (Phew) Quote
grain Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 It would be really interesting to see the work if anyone, such as Autodesk, issues awards in the varies CAD fields. Hopefully someone out there knows of some body or may even have been recognised themselves. Quote
mugshot Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 ... here in our country, we use standards and codes... it depends on the area... if it is on architectural-building codes, electrical-electrical codes, etc. and checked by the necessary officials, but we buy all the necessary books to guide us in our designs. mugshot Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 ... and i know from this forum, guys are trying to help to ease the use of all autodesk based software with no extra cost. if they are available, they will guarantee that you will be satisfied even if you're not asking for it. Quote
