Hello guys,

Using ACAD2005. When working with solids, everytime I extrude a cylindrical form or anything with a curve, when shaded it turns into polygon. Instead of looking like a nice smooth curve it looks like an octagon with diogonal lines on each of its faces. Is there someway to make these figures look good. I tried modifying the splineseg and facetres, but nothing happens. Changing the isolines didn't have any effect either. When rendering it also have the same effect. Curved solids turn into polygons.

Try setting VIEWRES to 10,000 and see if there's an improvement. Max value for this variable is 20,000.

Nothing. Still getting the straight lines. The cylinder just doesn't look round. :(

Try adjusting FACETRES again (10 is max) and REGEN to update the shading.

nothing. Still having flat faces instead of round!

Isolines=100
Viewres= 20.000
facetres = 10

can you share the file?

I don't have a specific file, I've just been testing, by drawing circles and extruding them. By drawing toruses and other round faced figures. The result is always the same. When I shade them or render them they don't look round, they look like polygons. Flat faces shown with a diagonal line when shaded. It looks fine in wirefrime (the curved surface).

I have a similar issue in AC2006. Mainly with long slowly sloping arcs, splines, etc. Unless it's rendered, they show as varying segment lengths that step down one line, continue with a slightly shorter segment than the previous, step down and keep going like this until they reach the endpoint.

I've drawn/extruded smaller splines that look great. The one thing I did notice was while the smaller splines only had 2 lines extended along the Z-axis yet the curve was MUCH smoother. I've tried all of the previous suggestions but can't seem to find a work around. The only thing I can think of is that once a curve is over a certain size/length it's just going to happen in 2D or 3D wireframe mode.

Is this just how AC works? I'm in the process of importing my drawing to another program to smooth the curves and will try to import it back to AC. I'm concerned with the conversions not being true though.

Jose,
set the VIEWRES variable to 10,000 prior to extruding the circles. o:)

I think you r using surfaces not solids
in this case type:
surftab1 & enter then 24 & enter
after that surftab2 & enter then 24 & enter

this is used to raise the num. of segments in sufaces
hope it works
