Guest The Maverick
Ok, I've generated two 3D Solid objects, then, aligned them both to (hopefully) give me the correct depth to subtract. After selecting the 'Subtract' command, it asks to select the objects. I then select the two objects (in the right order), hit enter........... and nothing! Where am I going wrong? I get the impression that there are additional tasks before the subtracting is done, but what? Many thanks in advance!!
CarlB
Does your text window look something like: Command: SUBTRACT Select solids and regions to subtract from .. Select objects: 1 found Select objects: Select solids and regions to subtract .. Select objects: 1 found Select objects: (You might be selecting all solids at the first prompt and nothing at the second; if so nothing would happen)

NickBSOTON
Hey i also had a similar problem. I'm trying to create an object to use on a mast for a project. I have created two solids, and want to subtract one from the other, but when I try the command, nothing happens and no error message comes up. I know they are both solids and I can subtract them from each other when they are in different positions. I know im not selecting both items either when it asks me for which object to select. ReMark
The solids may not be intersecting each other. Change your view and check their positions relative to each other.
MaxwellEdison
I've seen something like this when your first object (object to keep) is located entirely within the boundaries of the second object (object to subtract).
MaxwellEdison
Wrong thread perhaps?
ReMark
Yes...it was. Am I losing my mind or was it already lost? Thanks.
NickBSOTON
Hey, Yeah they are both definately intersecting one another. My tutor even had a look at it and he was baffled as well. It just seems like the program is thinking "yeah i could do that... but im not going to just to annoy you" Both the objects remain at the end of it too. ReMark
Maybe one of the objects is actually a block?
NickBSOTON
Hmm i checked and they are both objects. I seemed to have avoided the problem now though. I mucked around with it a bit and for some reason its working now even though i did the same thing. Its still rather confusing, but I have what i need now so its all good... strange situation. Thanks for the prompt replies and help! ReMark
Your welcomed. Thanks for the update. While I am glad to hear the problem has self-corrected it would be nice to know just what went wrong and what changed over time to allow the subtraction to proceed normally. I hope that in the future you can avoid a repeat of the problem.
NickBSOTON
Hi, I created all my shapes again in the same context and found I had some measurement differences. Only by a few mm but that might have been causing the problem. It seemed to work because the objects matched each others edged exactly. So yeah, that may have been the main problem.
