LAD152 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 So You know when you attach a dwg in an email...when the other person goes to download the attachment...you can either save or open. If I opened it and did not save, or rename, the file automatically goes to the computer's "temporary internet files" and when I go to file on auto cad, its not on the most recent dwgs list. You know where there are the most recent work on the bottom of the file tab. So we have this dwg that is somewhere in our computer, but cannot retrieve it. I found it one time, and it said I had to prove that it was a file...but couldn't prove it so it wouldnt open. Please HELP! Also, when I accessed the "temporary internet files" I didn't see any cad icons or dwgs. Is there a separate place in the temporary internet file folder for dwgs? Sorry if this is confusing guys, cause it sure does confuse me. Im just trying to get hours of work back without having to redraw. Thanks a lot!!! Quote
ReMark Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 "Is there a separate place in the temporary internet file folder for dwgs?" No, there isn't. Quote
Tiger Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 He's right though, but to me, when I open a dwg straight from Outlook it looks like it opens from a Outlook-folder in the temporary internet file-folder - but i can't really find that folder in the explorer. Quote
ReMark Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I didn't do anything; nor did I give up. Try here: C:\Documents and Settings\yourcomputernamehere\Application Data\AutoDesk\AutoCAD LT 2008\R1?\enu\Recent\SelectDrawingFileBlkDlg I found this path doing a search for all drawings on my entire harddrive no matter what folder they were in. Criteria: *.dwg Re: The is because I don't know the release number of AutoCAD LT 2008. Is it R16? Quote
skipsophrenic Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Try looking in C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK93 (where C:\ is your main hard drive) Quote
LAD152 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 thank you everyone. I am still having problems finding it, even with all this great help. I hope we can find it. Quote
LAD152 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 is there a way i can search it through cad? just wondering. So if this doesn't work does that mean that I pretty much have to start over? Quote
ReMark Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Try looking in C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK93 Your results may vary. You're sure to find a lot of files in the above-mentioned location, i.e. - Temporary Internet Files, but they'll have files types such as gif, bmp, jpg, png, pdf, css, eot, htm, js, ico and php. You'll also find a jar full of "cookies". You won't find any .dwg files. Sorry. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 look's lik I.T. have been messin with my machine again, 'cos that's where i have to go. Grrr. Quote
LAD152 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 remark, i typed in what you had, and found it..after altering the address... I clicked on it and it said that it was missing the shortcut, and it has been changed or moved. What should I do now? Quote
skipsophrenic Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 run a search for the filename, tell the search function to look through all of the c:\ drive Quote
eldon Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Pardon my simplicity, but could you not just open the e-mail again and save the file? Quote
LAD152 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 remark- i found the dwg but it says this item ' xxxx' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. could it be renamed? where could it have gone?? Quote
LAD152 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 the email was altered after opened. Quote
ReMark Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Let's hope that in this case you are one of those rare people who never, ever remember to empty their Recycle Bin. Did you try looking in there for the file? It would take a miracle to resurrect a file that never was truely "saved" anywhere. I'm fair-to-good most days but I honestly admit I am not THAT good.
