Mr.Alex Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Hi, I'm in the process of migrating from Microstation to AutoCAD (some of you may have read my other thread). I have a question please: In Microstation there are two ways of grouping objects together. One was to make a cell (a very similar tool to blocks in AutoCAD) and the other a more simple tool called "group". You would select the items that you wanted to group together and simply press "control + G" or go to "edit > Group". The "group" wouldn't have all of the features of a cell (or block) but it would then behave like a cell (block), as in you could move all of the elements just by picking one point. Like a block 'lite' tool, if that makes sense! Is there an equivalent tool in AutoCAD? It is much quicker than creating a block in AutoCAD (there's no dialog box & you don't need to give it a name). I hope so, because I used this a lot in Microstation. Thanks in advance! Quote
chulse Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 There is a GROUP command, but it does use a dialog box or command prompts. You do need to name it. Quote
Mr.Alex Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks Chulse. I had come across that, but I think it's probably no quicker than the block command to use? Certainly not as quick as just pressing "contol + G" in Microstation. Perhaps I'll have to learn to live without it! Quote
Raggi_Thor Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 You can use the command -GROUP , "-" (minus) to avoid the dialog box. You can use acad.pgp to make your own alias for it. You can use CUI to add -GROUP to you right click menu. Quote
Mr.Alex Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks Raggi_Thor, that sounds very promising. I'll have a play with that! Quote
Raggi_Thor Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 One more thing If you have the Express Tools installed I think you have an Alias Editor there. It's maybe easier than finding the acad.pgp text file. Quote
