Hi all.

I am new to this and this is my first post. I have been reading through the subjects and, even though I have spotted a lot of post referring to title blocks, I can't find one that helps me.

What my aim is, is to take a title block off one drawing, save it as a template and then scale it onto another drawing (A0), (A1).

Please can anybody tell me how to do this as I have spent the last 2 hours trying various things and I am failing badly.

I apologise if I have missed any technical information out on my post but I am working on AutoCAD 2007.

Kind Regards

First I think you should separate the drawing border from the title block. Make one border as a block for each papersize you use. These can be as simple as a rectangle slighly smaller than the A0 to A4 sizes. Then make the title block. It's easiest to start with an existing one, explode it and edit it as you like, then define the block again. Pick the attribute definitions in the order you want them, then select the whole thing, remember base point at the lower right corner.

Hey, I have exploded the title block but how can I 'define' it again as it wont let me edit the attributes as it is currently exploded :(

Welcome to the forums Anthony!

I'm sure some CAD geek in the forums will certainly have a solution quick.

I use the title blocks that were part of the AutoCAD program(s), edited to suit my needs.

Again, welcome! Visit often.

Thanks Tankman

Yes I have a guy at work help me out but when I get home I go on AUTOCAD and realise I missed a hell of a lot of information I need to know to do some simple tasks.

I can see a lot of information in this forum and I have been reading a lot of it. I lot seems jargen at the moment but I am sure I will learn.

I been sat here now for 2 hours trying to figure out how to close a title block after exploding it. :( I havent come accross anything yet that tells me how to reverse exploding objects or title blocks so I can re-edit the text :(

there are (at least) 2 ways to create a block.

The old way is to type BLOCK or BEDIT and select all your items, including all the ATTDEFs (attribute definitions) that you require. This way you define a block within the current drawing which is then only usable in that drawing.

The next way is to just save your current(ly exploded) drawing to its own name and that can be INSERT(ed) into any drawing as a block.

Too late now but I never (well vary rarely) explode a block with the current versions of AutoCAD. If I am only making minor changes I use REFEDIT to redefine the block or for more major changes I use BEDIT which opens up a block editor. From here you can edit your current block or save it to a new name.

One word of warning when making blocks. ENSURE you use a sensible base point. You have no idea of the problems you will encounter if you don't define it properly.

Thank you, Dave. I have applied that and I am happy as larry. LOL took me a while but this site is helping me alot :D. I think I really need to go on a professional course to learns everything for my job. Saying that. I bet I only use a small percentage of what autoCAD can offer.

Thank you again
