How to make a block library?

I want to save a block in one drawing, and then be able to find the same block when I open a new sheet.

Copy/Paste them all into one single *.DWG file. Save it on the network (or locally if you don't use a network) and that way you can always have access to them using the INSERT command, the Design Center, or you can use Tool Palettes to create your own custom Block Libraries (which is probably the most recommended to use with Blocks on a consistent basis). :)

Thanks:)

I have saved som blocks in a single dwg-file, but then I`ll have to open the dwg-file each time I want to use some of the blocks.

How do I save the blocks in the tool palettes?

Open the drawing which contain blocks

Press Ctrl+3 for tool palettes

Drag & drop your blocks.

Also its good practice to create your own custom Tool Palettes. You can do this by Rightclicking on the Tool Palette tab and selecting "New Palette". :)

Just don't mix blocks from different disciplines. Example: blocks of equipment for a manufacturing plant shouldn't be mixed in with blocks of office furniture.

I havnt tried to save blocks before so seeing this thread i thought id give it ago,

I guess im doing something wrong here, as i cant open blocks, I have taken blocks from another drawing added them to a new dwg saved that drawing as my blocks drawing, I then opened a new drawing and then tried to insert blocks from my new dwg containing the blocks but it will not allow me to open any blocks saved to that drawing only the whole drawing containing the blocks and then i can open the single blocks from there is that normal or what have i done wrong please ?

Are you using Design Center to drag-n-drop your blocks into the new drawing as StykFace suggested?

And have you tried dropping them onto a custom tool pallet as also suggested above?

yes i can drag and drop them from my saved drawing to a custom tool pallet, i just thought the idea was to be able to load them from the saved drawing ?

Load from saved drawing via Design Center.

Otherwise, make a folder for your blocks and insert them directly from there. The downside is you have to point AutoCAD in the right direction every time you want to use the particular block unless you've set up a macro that does it for you.

After saving the drawing with multiple blocks in it, use DesignCenter to find that drawing, now right click on the drawing name there and pick Create New Tool Palette. AutoCAD will do the rest. Now you have a new palette and the tab name will be the drawing name. You can always rename the tab with a right click.
