How to take a 3ds Max 9 file and convert to AutoCAD

I have designed a conference table in 3ds Max 9 and need to convert it back to a AutoCAD file and add dimensions. Please help need to finish tonight as is due for class tomorrow.

Yeah, that tutorial is a little dated. The Export dialog in Max 9 is a little more streamlined, and you can Export as 2007, 2004 or 2000 format. But be aware, the model that you Export will come into Autocad as a Polyface Mesh, not as a Solid.

Thank you for the information. I have saved the file in multiples and will try to see what works. I do not know what a Polyface mesh is though. Should I have the max design open in 3d view?

You don't have to do anything special in Max, just go to the 'File' pull down menu and select either 'Export' or 'Export Selected'.

 

The 'Export' option will grab everything in your scene and export it.

The 'Export Selected' option will only export the objects that you have selected prior to choosing this option.

 

Both of the above options will open the Export dialog shown in my previous post. So just choose what version you want to Export to, and then click Ok. This will create a .dwg file that you will be able to open in Autocad.
