JBullseye74 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Ok just upgraded to 2009 yesterday and just getting to grips with it its nice i like it (Borat style) No i have some Dynamic blocks that when i extracted the data in 2006 it would list only the visible attributes. Now in 2009 it seems to list all the attributes visible or not!! Whats the score with this anybody know? Quote
JBullseye74 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 Anybody?!? Noone else use Data extraction on 2009?!?!? HELP............ Quote
Geoffers Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 i am here, wish i could help, haven't tried data extraction...?:? Quote
Magnum Z Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Are you making a new data extraction table or updating an old one? Reason I ask is with what I've been messing with so far(trying to figure out a bidirectional link for attributes connected to an Excel table), I've learned that older data extraction tables within AutoCAD are more easily redone than trying to update them with the new methods. So what you want to do is start a new data extraction via EATTEXT command. Then use the "Create New Data Extration" radio button choice. It will ask you to save a .dxe. I've named any I created after the file name and put it in the same folder, but it's up to you how you want to handle that part of the file management. From here either select the entire drawing and/or sheets, or select specific objects. IMPORTANT: This same dialog box has a "Settings" button right above the "Next" button. Click it and select what you need. If it's only blocks your after, uncheck the xref one so you don't have to sort through them if the drawing has any. I ususally select blocks only in model space only. Now you should have a list. Uncheck "Show All Objects", and pick either "non-blocks" or "blocks" option. If you do want both, leave all objects selected. The other options are self explanitory. Check which objects or blocks you wish to use in the data extraction in the list. The next dialog box will show category filters. You should probably be able to figure out the rest from here with some experimentation. Hope that helps. Quote

Hey thanks for the response - i have tried both, using an existing & creating a new one. I have done many before in 2006 and and had it off to a tee, its just that in 2009 it seems to extract my attributes which are not visible.... Quote
JBullseye74 Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 For anyone who has had the same problem as me this my response from the Autodesk support team...... It looks as though this behaviour occurs in all versions of AutoCAD after AutoCAD 2006. Unfortunately you will need to workaround the issue by manually de-selecting the attribute data that you do not want included in the extracted data I have logged this as a change request with our development team. Best Regards, Autodesk Support Team I can't actually deselect the attribute data that you don't want if you have multiple blocks displaying different attributes Not good! Quote
Magnum Z Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 You should be able to deselect any attribute you don't want in the data extration. I find that odd you're having trouble with it. Perhaps this is a bug? Have you tried just selecting one block set only to extract first and then select/deselecting the attributes you want to display? If not, try that first. If it works, perhaps there's just one block in the many that you're selecting that's causing the problem. Why that may be, I'm not sure, but it could help you determine the trouble making block or blocks. Quote

However not in what i am doing as i have a complex block with many attributes containing the information i want to extract. I have the same block many times in my drawing each with different attributes visible using the visibility parameter. Now if i deselect say one of the attributes i don't in one it may have been visible in another, therefore my data extraction will not perform correctly. It seems since AutoCAD2006 the data extraction will also extract data from blocks inside blocks so i can get around the problems my blocks just need some re-designing. Quote
Magnum Z Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Ah, I see what you mean now. I use a block much the same as you only without different attributes in the different visibility states. I can see why you're running into trouble now, but without changing your blocks as you said you'll be doing I don't think there's any work around for that. Well good luck with your blocks. Hope you get it to work out somehow for you. Magnum Quote
