im new to the forum, so forgive me if this is in the wrong section. Ive looked though the autodesk help and even asked autodesk this question but they seem to not want to help to much.
In my architecture office we are trying to use autocad architecture 2009 to a fuller extent. I personally know the 3d aspects of cad through autodesk 2004.

Now when you draw any 3d object or even any object in cad it is automatically placed on a standard layer (such as A-WALL). what is the precedure to alter the standards to that, say a new wall such as stud-4, can be put onto our office standards. (such as N-Wall or N-studwall).

locate the AECLayerSTD.dwg file, this contains all of the layer standards for autocad architecture.

after you open that file go to

Format -> Layer Format -> Layer Key Styles

Create a New style in the window, and set where you want each item to go. Next go to your template, and there is a little left facing triangle with a circle around it in the lower left above the command bar. Click that and go to drawing setup. Under the layering tab you will find a pull down for Layer Key Style, pull that down and you should see your new layer key style that was created earlier, et it to that and click save as default in the lower left, and you should be set.

Let me look at it in more depth when I get home tonite, and I will see what I can find.

So you are trying to remove layer key styles from your template? or are you trying to remove items from within the style?

I am trying to remove items from within the style (such as landscape styles ie: layer key "vehicles"). We want each dept. to have access only to layers the dept. uses. The remove tab is shaded out and cannot be altered.

thanks for your help by the way

I do not think you can remove the standard items from the layer key, only ones you add in yourself. Could you have those items default to a no plot layer with a very obvious color so you would notice if someone is inserting a piece they should not be?

You could then setup a layer key style for each discipline and have that active in the drawings they create. Although if they open a drawing that was say, created using the architecture key style, they would have to manually change the key style for the discipline they were using. It might end up being a huge hassle though.

You are quite welcome for the help, hope it helps :)
