Mark1965 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Hi all I have made some blocks from model space at 1:1 and when i insert them in some dwg`s they are fine but when i use them in others they appear very small and the only difference i can see when i choose them is that the little box that says factor has changed for some reason from 1 to 0.04 . The dwg that im inserting to has come from someone else, any ideas why and what i can do to make my blocks work again?. Thanks Mark Quote
Tiger Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 There are a few things that can affect block insertion scale. First off, go Format > Units and see what the Insertion scale is set as there. Change to suite your unit, or set it as unitless. If that does not help, check the INSUNITSDEFSOURCE and the INSUNITSDEFTARGET (gotta be the longset variables in the place) - I'd recommend setting them to 0 if they are set to anything else. Quote
Mark1965 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Awsome Tiger , for some reason they had been showing every thing in mm but the units where set at inches , as soon as i changed it my blocks were fine:D . Thank you Mark Quote
Tiger Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Gald to help. It's a common problem, AutoCAD assumes that everyone draws in inches Quote

It's a common problem, AutoCAD assumes that everyone draws in inches Yes, but i cant understand why they would draw the dwg in mm but have there units set at inches:roll: seems a bit strange. Another starnge one is some of the irish dwg`s have been scaled in model space not paper ,still im learning not to take things for granted. Mark Quote
Tiger Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Probably whoever did the DWG from the start didn't know (didn't bother) to set the unit to mm - unless you start importing/exporting/x-reffing the file it doesn't really show. Scaled in Model Space?? That's just about the worst crime there is!! (at least if you ask the CadT Forum Members ) But like you said, never take anything for granted. I tend to always take a copy of any DWG I get and set it up as I like it, often I just copy-paste everything to a new drawing with my settings to remove most strangenessity. Quote
