i asked the question last week about the difference between 2000 and 2002 when positioning an object and when inputting a direct distance entry. i still havent found the solution, where is the 'Form' setting? Can i decentisise the snap without switching it off?
sorry for being a pest but this problem is putting me off 2002.

try holding down your shift key, then rightclick.
it should bring up a snap menu, the "from" option is under tracking, towards the top of the list.

i have tried this option and yes it works a treat, but this is an extra complication that 2000 did not have, it jsut seems to me that its a step back.
thanks again for your help.

Yes, i agree, there were a few commands and dialogue boxes that were changed between acad2000 + 2002.
I hate to see what changes to existing commands the boffins at autodesk have done in acad2004.
Sorry i couldnt help.

Have you have looked in the OPTIONS command and right-click customization ?
I have it setup in 2000i so right click finishes a command or distance entry.

Your "from" snap has been pointed out, but to add to it, If you have a 5-button-scroll-wheel mouse, you can program the one of the extra buttons to be a "control+right-click" and you will have your snap menu pop-up with one button.
Another method for direct entry not mentioned here is "polar-tracking". I use it instead of ortho because it has many standard angles already, or you can add "incremental-angles". Just point in the direction and enter your distance. Of course though, you will want your "tooltips" variable set to 1.

Shift+Rightclick brings up the snap menu too.
