At my new postion they insist on using single line text to line up the left side of each sentence. Now I have tried Mtext and will have to admit the widths of idividual letters, quirks with Mtext, what ever it is, when using Mtext, each line does not always line up perfectly. So we type (space)1. for one line, then the the second part of the same line is (space)(space)(space)(space)Text text text. The second line will have 6 spaces, then I line all the insert points perp to a vertical line. Maybe part of the problem is dragging/dropping the text file into the dwg? Find/replace is handy for replacing 2 spaces with 4, but ther has to be a better way. This is ver 04. Any Ideas?

Not sure if I am understanding you properly mate. It sounds like you are having trouble with text justification using Mtext? The way I do it using MText is to have everything left justified. If spaces are required between numbering and text, try using tabs (just click on the "ruler" on top of the mtext window or right-click on the writing space and select "Indents and Tabs") This will let you specify the Tab stop position, first line indentation and paragraph indentation. Hope this helps! You can also make single line text into Mtext using the Express Tools. Cheers!

There is a setting inMTEXT called LINE SPACE STYLE. This can be set to AT LEAST or EXACTLY. It is defalted to AT LEAST which spaces the lines to the maximum character. You need it set to EXACTLY so that lines with characters like ()$"'/`¦}{[]* dont mess up the spacing. I am not sure how to set MTEXT to EXACTLY as default. Hope this helps.

Thanks wehaveaproblem - spot on. I have found that once I change the setting to EXACTLY then it seems to default to that every time.

Thanks both, I'll try both ideas and see if I can get a dwg past the Engineers, (I think they are taking my dwgs home nad using a light table and micrometer to measure my text :D
Later....
