Proctor Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Hello: Using the Dimension Style Manager, under List, I select "Style in use" After, I click the modify button. After, I click on the text tab....and change the text height. This setting stays while I'm working on a drawing; however, when I open a new drawing, it's gone. How can I get the dimension text height to remain the same always? thanks, Proctor Quote
sparklerach Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Only this drawing will have your modified dimensions style. For all new drawings to have this style, you will need to change the template. Open a new drawing, change the dimension style and save over your template. Quote
Proctor Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 sparklerach: thank you for your help. do you kow where to find the default template setting? I opened acad.dwt and did what you said. after, i re-opened cad, and went to start a new drawing and the new text height i entered wasn't there. however, if i select acad.dwt first - then i see it's there. thanks again, Proctor Quote
NaeKid Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 It is better to create your own template and leave the default template alone. As per the attached file, you will see that there is a drop-arrow beside "Open" - click on the "Open with no template" .. Build a "basic frame" around the screen of a size that you like, put in any standard information into that basic frame that you will use all the time, set your dimension size / style and then save the file as a template-file with a name of "custom.dwt" (custom can be any name that you choose that makes sense to you). Because the work I do is CNC programming of cutting and forming machines based on drawings given to me by customers, I have both imperial and metric templates depending on the kinds of sketches that customers want me to work with. My templates have all the control-layers pre-set so that I just need to save one .dxf file that all the machines will be able to recognize their layers, ignore the rest and do what they need to do. Proctor Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 NaeKid: Thank you for showing me how to do this. My only question is, if I want my custom template to load when autocad opens, is there a setting for this? thanks again, Proctor Quote
JoeC Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Not to butt-in to someone's discussion, but try - Assist - Options - Files - Template settings - Default template for sheet creation... - browse for and select your custom template. It should open with this template the next time you start a new drawing. Quote
