muhammad Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 How can make the model dwg to read only / lock ? Regards Muhammad autocad 2008 Quote
ReMark Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Rather than lock the drawing why don't you just convert it to PDF? That way you can share it without worrying someone is going to edit it with your knowledge. Don't bother with making it read-only. Someone can do a "save as" using a different name and then edit the drawing at will. Quote
ReMark Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Two more options for sharing/protecting drawings: AutoCAD's own DWF and another program called CADVault both offer password protection. Quote
Ritch7 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 yeh Remark is partly correct, however their isnt really a way round this problem, I once looked into this, because in order to see the drawing you have to open it someway, and even if you cant save as you can print screen or try to copy the data in other forms, its like as soon as someone can see it they can copy/edit it in someway. JoeC Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I agree with the previous answers for safeguarding a drawing. But to answer the question the way it was asked...find the dwg file in Windows Explorer, right click on it, select "properties", then check "read only". Quote
ReMark Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Read only attributes can be reset by anyone who has the knowledge. Quote
JoeC Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Right you are RemMark! Maybe Muhammad will merely be sharing drawings with dumb salesmen who don't have the knowledge to reset the read only, but they may need to use Acad's distance tool. I do this every day, and its easier than trying to explain how to use the measure tools in eDrawings or the like! Quote
ReMark Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Sharing drawings with someone who only needs to see them, print them and maybe even take a measurement off them sounds like a job for a CAD viewing program. Quote
