Open folder in the same place as last time

We have many 100s of Dwgs in various files in our company and on some PCs when you go to open it automaticly highlights the last opened Dwg, so that if a am searching for a specific Dwg then i can open the one next to the last one opened fairly quickly, but on some of the PCs this does not happen!! Can anyone tell me what setting turns this off and on???

Thank You

I think it might be the system variable REMEMBERFOLDERS. Change this from 1 to 0 and see what happens.

I have tried this and it does not work!

Thank You very much for the quick response tho!!

I think I got it reversed. "1" is the default value that mimics standard Microsoft behavior. That is "when you open or save a file to another folder, that folder is remembered for future file selection."

By the way, in the program shortcut, is a Start In path designated in the icon properties? If so, what is it? Compare two computers where the above problem does and does not occur. Are they different?

Are you talking about the list of drawings at the bottom of the 'File' pulldown menu? This is governed by 'file open' on the 'open and save' tab under 'options'.

I'm guessing you have yet to solve your problem. Right?

No need to yell. I'm right here. Thanks for the update.

What steps have you thus far taken to troubleshoot the problem that are not mentioned above.

Silence is golden.

I'm running AutoCAD 2009 at the moment. My program operates the way you say you would like yours to. On my computer the variable REMEMBERFOLDERS is set to "1". When I right-click on my desktop shortcut icon for opening AC and select Properties and look at the entry for Start in: I see the following path listed:

"C:\Programs\AutoCAD 2009\UserDataCache\"

My question, which you have yet to answer, is on two of your computers, one having the problem and one not, what are the settings for REMEMBERFOLDERS and what appears in the Start in: dialog box? Please respond appropriately. Thank you.

One last thing.

Under Tools > Options on the Files tab are the entries under the following two categories exactly the same for the two comparison computers:

Working Support File Search Path

Project Files Search Path

Thank you for your prompt and courteous reply.

This can't be fixed from within Acad!

In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View tab and turn OFF the toggle for "Hide extensions for known file types".

I think remarks on the right track here, the rememberfolders is what controls where the computer goes when you try to open a dwg from autocad

straight from help

0-Restores the behavior of AutoCAD 2000 and previous releases. When you start the program by double clicking a shortcut icon, if a Start In path is specified in the icon properties, that path is used as the default for all standard file selection dialog boxes.

1-Uses standard Microsoft behavior. When you first start the program after installation, the default path in each standard file selection dialog box is My Documents. When you open or save a file to another folder, that folder is remembered for future file selection. The Start In folder specified for the shortcut icon is not used)

I'm familiar with the REMEMBERFOLDERS variable and that won't do it. That controls what FOLDER you were in last, but will not highlight the last drawing open within a folder.

This functionality is controlled through Windows Explorer folder options and that's the ONLY way to get AutoCAD to behave how 'dyffbeer' is requesting.
