I have some text that I need to change within a title block, can't change it via the attribute editor, so had to explode it.I display the properties of the text to find out that it's a user defined hatch pattern :? .Any ideas how I can modify this text? There is no little box saying contents in the properties as before that you usually click on to alter text.

If properties is telling you that it's a hatch, theres no way you can alter the text. I think the only option is to replace it with something else. Make it an attribute so that you can edit it without exploding the block. Presumably, the creator used hatch because it is a non-standard font or it was created with an old version of AutoCAD. In the old days before TTF fonts in AutoCAD, using a hatch to create filled text was the only way of doing it!

Since it's 'user defined' someone has defined it and you should be able to edit it. I presume you have tried HATCHEDIT ?

Thanks for your help but this seems like I've opened a can off worms!I've tried the HATCHEDIT command and can change the proprties of the hatch, but not the actual text.I've also located similar text on this template, that is single line text and on its own text style (CBE),though this text is too skinny. So I converted the text to mtext and ****** it,the "bold" option isnt available, its greyed out! From their Ive found that Gill Sans is the nearest font, everything is almost there but Gill Sans font has a slant to it!The existing font has no slant to it,how can I get around this one?

Why don't you create a new text style of your own and apply it ?

The true Gill Sans font does not have a "slant" to it. The font family does include an italicised face but the normal face has vertical ascenders. I reckon that if you find a true Gill Sans TTF, your problems will be solved.
