Is there any way you can open/import a pdf in CAD and edit it in the same way as you would edit an AutoCAD drawing?:(

PDF files can generally only be 'edited' using software such as Adobe Illustrator.

In later versions of AutoCAD (ie. 2007 onwards) there is the ability to import pdf files directly into AutoCAD. However, it is not possible to edit them in AutoCAD.

thefe is a program called pdftodxf that lets you edit pdf drawings. Unfortunately you have to scale them up, there are no individual layers, clarity can be poor.

I wouldnt really recommend it, but if you really have to, this will work.

It's a horror, quality is "junque" but, it can get you started.

www.pdf2cad.com has a free trial which converts *.pdf to *.dxf which you can then open in AutoCAD, any version.

I do find this useful occasionally.

I used Inkscape for importing (dxf) vendor cut sheets to either model (3d)or show in plan/section. the quality all depends on the PDF itself. The one caviot that took me a while to understand is (and would bet it applies to most converters) it does not work on an image scanned to PDF. It has to be the original.

Exactly, a *.pdf generated from a scan'll never work.

Shows up as a *.dxf file but, open the file, an image that you can't "see."

If the *.pdf is a scanned image, I convert to *.dxf using pdf2cad.

Open the *.dxf file, save to *.dwg format.

Scale the image, best you can.

Set the image to draworder, 'B' (back).

Set some known dimensions. Trace using normal drawing rules; i.e.: @90

Gets you out-of-the-gate so to speak. Delete the image and clean up your drawing, PURGE 'n AUDIT.

I did a few of these today while watchin' the NFL sittin' at the kitchen counter.
