Hey guys,i have a question about autocad speed. Im using 09 C3D. I have "sheet" drawings with "base" drawings Xref'ed in. The sheets have like 5 or so Xrefs in them. Acad is Dragging. We are also working over a WAN, the server im accessing is about 15 or so miles away. The company uses riverbed. I sent a email asking about speed of my computer over the network. The IT guy called me and said that im "moving" 3.3GB of data an hour over the network on 3 MB "pipes" or lines... I have a clue its all the xrefs... anyone have any tips to help? I have already done everything i can find on speeding up acad and my computer. What do Xref's do in the background? Oh, we have the visretain set to 1. I thought about using INDEXCTL and XLOADCTL to see if that helps...any ideas on that? Any information on what its doing will help...what does cad do each time you open a drawing... What its doing is at the end of every command its lagging... like almost a minute.Even at the end of simple move commands or editing text.

Have you tried saving the drawing to your Desktop and work from there. When you are done just upload it to the server again?

Let me know if that helped at all

That would work with some drawings... but we "arent supposed" to do that cause someone could modify the drawing on the server then you just overwrite the changes that someone else made in the time that i had the drawing... Working on the local server is fine. The sheet drawings wouldnt matter if i copied local because the references would still be going out to the server...

Is your demand loading of xrefs enabled with copy?

It may help to speed things up.

It copies the xrefs to the local drive and uses them from there.

I think i may have narrowed some speed issues down to one of the xrefs. I have flattened objects, purge,-pu, regapps, mapclean... everything i can think of and this one dwg is still messin up all of the sheet drawings... any other ideas i may have not thought of? HELP.......

Similar posts didnt help... ive seen all of it before.... Well i installed C3D 2010 yesterday, and the same drawing opened in 2010 is really fast, open it again in 2009 and its slow as molassas on a cold day... but 2010 has a different dwg format so 09 and 10 dwgs are not interchangeable.... screwed again...
