Hi,
There are several (legal) ways to get a software to begin working on AutoCAD.
1. You can go to autodesk website and request a free 30-day trial CD. I am not sure how long it will take to get the CD. However, beginning 2006, Autodesk offered streaming download of AutoCAD 2006, which is still available. You may need high speed internet connection all the time you use streaming 30-day trial. I used it and it was pretty good. This will at least get you going.
2. If you are a student or faculty, you can get the software at a reasonable price. $159 for one year or $379 for perpetual license.
3. If this price is high for you, please look for some textbooks. Nowadays a lot of textbooks are bundled with 180-day or 1-year AutoCAD software CD. Including the textbook, the software you will get is cheaper than what I mentioned in #2.
4. If you are not into 3-D, look on e-bay, you may get AutoCAD LT for a reasonable price.
5. If you are in an area with a lot of CAD industries, you may look for companies having excess/old copies of CAD software.
I hope this helps. Once you get the software, please visit www.covershim.com for free AutoCAD project tutorials.

Thanks very much for all this....
trial version from Autodesk is for USA users only as they ask for ZIP code etc. and I'm from UK. Anyway, I've found AutoCad 2002 LT version from a user who recently upgraded to 2005...
And this is what I could get for around £50....AUTOCAD 2002LT + learning Assitance CD....what do you think, would it be a good thing to start or shall I go straight for newer?
Thank you all.
