I want to make a viewport that is 24" by 36"

Now I'm really new to this so bear with me....

I just want to make this viewport and then use it....

I go to Layout 1, then use mview to make the viewport

Then I click on it and type ms

The border of it goes bold, but then when I switch back to Model and draw something it is not drawing inside that viewport, it is drawing outside of it?

Hi Kevin,

For preparing a layout of 32" X 24" first draw rectangle in paper space of the same dimensions.

Now rightclick on the layout tab > Page Setup Manager > Modify > Now select the desired printer, paper size(Arch D-30 x 24 inches).

Under plot area select window, make a window over the rectangle you prepared earlier. When back in the page setup window select the center the plot option now click OK. And you are done.

Let me know how it helped you.

Enjoy

Hi,

Your problem that the objects you draw in model are not seen in the layout. I belive that the model you specified is model tab.

Its just because your viewport is not zoomed into the part of the model space where you have drawn something.

Try this. Go to model space by double clicking into the viewport.

Here draw something maybe a circle.

Now get back to the paperspace(double click outside the viewport).

Go back to model tab. Now see where the circle is and start drawing near the circle.

Hope it helps you.

you could also double click inside the viewport and zoom extents and it will bring everything in the drawing into the viewport then just pan and zoom until it only shows what you want it to show

What I want to do is make it so that I can draw 1:1, but the drawing will fit on a 24x36" sheet.

What is the easiest way to do it? Someone told me viewport a while ago....

maybe,

start a new drawing,

in the menu, go to format>drawing limits

and set your limits to 24,36

The objects you are drawing should all be drawn in model space full size. Then you go to paper space, create you viewport and assign it a scale. This layout is also where your title block and border should reside.

OK I'll try this. Thanks!

Use page Setup Manager to select the size of the paper you'll be plotting to. We regularly plot to 24x36 and have a title block and border specific to that sheet size. I cannot recall a time when we had a need to have a viewport the same size as our sheet but each company has its own way of doing things.

the only way you are going to be able to draw 1:1 on a 24x36 sheet is if what you are drawing will fit on a 24x36 sheet, if its something bigger then 24x36 you will have to scale it
