New install of 2008 teething problems

I have just installed a fresh copy of 2008 onto my laptop. All working fine. The problem is that every key stroke I perform the screen seems to regen itself and likewise with any action I perform it seems to do exactly the same. Its getting a bit too much as if I type a command it looks like the screen in flashing! Is this an ACAD issue or a laptop issuse?

Someone mentioned that it is a directx prob I am running Vista with directx 10 if this helps?

I have tried everything graphics wise but to no avail, I still think it has something to do with directx but dont know how to "downgrade" to a previous version as vista has directx 10 pre installed, any ideas, its driving me mad!

Have you updated all your drivers? As in Graphics and laptop drivers.

What graphics chip or card is installed in the laptop?

Sorry about the late reply but I haven't used the laptop since, I am still having problems with it as soon as I turn hardware acceleration on, the system should be able to cope but ovbiously the wrong setting or drivers are installed, my system specs are:

Aspire 6530G

AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile RM-70 2Ghz

4 Gb DDR2 RAM

ATI Radeon HD 3650 512 Mb GC (Up to 1791 Shared 512 dedicated)

DirectX 10

Any suggestins would be greatly appriciated

It's only the CAD program where this happens?

I'm not a big fan of onboard graphics chips. A dedicated card is always the way to go.

It is a dedicated card but it can also share the system mempry to boost it from 512Mb to 1.7Gb

Oh and yes, this is the only program which it affects (so far as its pretty new)

That's all well and good but you end up robbing from Peter to pay Paul. The system will bog down as it does not have enough resources.

Try "3dconfig" from the Autocad command line.

There you can set how Autocad uses your graphics resources.

Use "Manual Tune" for further configurations, however, do only one or two at a time and see if it improves and note the defaults settings before changing things.

Hello!

This might be a "long shot", but anyway. First, I assume your 2008 Is Architecture.

I had a similar problem after installing ADT 2009 on my new computer.

It looks like It´s regen itself and It´s taking a long time to execute commands.

After opening a new drawing or after any command, look in the text window (hit F2) Is there alot of text like "AecObjRelGraph.........."

If so, there Is an easy solution.

Read about this problem here http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2890424&linkID=9240657

Sorry fellas, neither one of these works, I tried the manual tune but it still happens, the recomended settings are nearly on full as its a decent setup so it cant be that as when i turn it off it still happens. I did notice howver that it happens when I have more than one drawing open, dunno if this helps. Going to email Autodesk and ask them as I think it may be a directX problem.

SOLVED!

I should have mentioned that I had installed the third party software drawing manager so I could switch between mulitple drawing using tabs instead of the window drag down box. I noticed that it only happened when I opened more than one drawing so I decided to uninstall it and violla it worked!

My next question is . . is there any official add-on that has no issues that i can get so I can have multiple drawing tabs to switch between????

Thanks for all your help btw :)

You should be able to open multiple drawings in any version above 2000i. and have tabs at the bottom of the screen.

Have you got "single drawing compatability mode" checked in your options?

Posted

I can open multiple drawings and I know about the SDI command but I want the tabs on the top of the screen to quick switch between drawings, the third party sofware I had wasn't compatible as I have just found out

What third-party program were you using when the problem occured?

Posted

CAE - Link Corporation's Drawing Manager 2008 (DwgMan_08.exe)

Used to work sweet with 2006 but seems it's not compatible with 2008 :(
